The Soap Project

A month in Vanautu working amongst the villages running health clinics and it doesn't take long to see there is a real need to support these communities in everyday health issues.

Ailments like scabies, infected insect bites, ulcerating wounds and head lice are a common complaint. The childrens heads would be covered in scabs from constant scratching, their arms and legs with weeping scabs or semi healed crusted wounds.

Adults with what was once a small wound now a gaping ulcer.

What never ceased to amaze me the share stoical nature of these lovely people.

I was struck with the passion to reach out these people and find a way to help.

Come in the Palm Project...

Liane Farry is no nonsence kiwi with a heart for the people of Vanuatu. In 2007 she met the people of

Uluveu Island, South Malakula, Vanuatu.

It was to be the beginning of an amazing life changing relationship for all involved.

Long story short, Liane and the women of Uluveu village have developed a local soap that has huge medicinal properties. Scabies, white spot (fungal skin condition) and head lice are no longer the major problem they used to be.

Rob and I visited the island before we had ever heard of the soap and the first thing we noticed was the clear clean skin of the local people. We started asking questions which is how we discovered the soap.

The soap is taking off and fast becoming sort after, the factory is now producing lovely packaged soap for the world markets.

The Soap Project is LHR's initiative to get this amazing soap into the hands of every family in Vanuatu at no cost. When you struggle to put food on the table, buying soap is not a priority and when you buy it, it would be the cheapest available. As we all know you can get cheap commercially produced soap but this has no medicinal properties and often full of chemicals.

The Palm Project soap is locally made and therefore helping an island community provide better housing and education for their families. It has a long track record in aiding the eradication of skin diseases if used on a regular bases.

Come on board and share this story with your family and friends.

The more money we raise the more soap gets into the hands of those who desperately need it.
